An MOT at Synergy Autocentres is £39 for cars and vans up to 3.5 tonnes, and that is the price you pay. There are no hidden extras and nothing is paid online.
The most a garage is allowed to charge for a Class 4 MOT is £54.85, a maximum set by the DVSA that has not changed since 2010 and carries no VAT. We charge £39 because we would rather you came to us for the test and the honest advice than paid more for the same inspection somewhere else.
If the test finds something that needs fixing, the repair is quoted separately and before we touch anything. You can take the car away to think about it, get a second opinion or ask us to go ahead.
The MOT is a safety and emissions inspection set by the DVSA, so every testing station checks the same items to the same standard. Our tester works through the car in a set order, from the lights and wipers down to the brakes, tyres, suspension, exhaust and structure, and records each result on the DVSA system, so your certificate is on GOV.UK straight after the test. An MOT is not a service. It does not look at the engine oil, the clutch or the gearbox, and it does not change anything. A car can pass its MOT and still be overdue a service, which is why many Lincoln drivers book the two together.
Most tests take around an hour. You are welcome to wait at the workshop on Pioneer Way, where there is seating, Wi-Fi and a kettle, or if you would rather get on with your day we can arrange a courtesy car or collect the car from your home or work in Lincoln and bring it back.

A fail is not the end of the world. You get a refusal certificate listing every item, graded dangerous, major or minor, and we go through it with you in plain English. Dangerous and major faults have to be put right before the car can pass. Minor faults and advisories are things to keep an eye on.
If you want us to do the repairs, we quote first, and the retest is free when the work is done and the car is retested within 10 working days. If your current certificate still has time on it you can drive the car away to think about it, unless it has failed on a dangerous fault, in which case it must not be driven until the fault is repaired.
Not sure it will pass? Ask for a pre-MOT check when you book. We look over the usual failure points, such as tyres, bulbs, wipers and brakes, and can sort the small things before the test rather than after it.
You can have the MOT done up to a month, minus a day, before the current one runs out and keep the same renewal date, so there is no reason to leave it until the last week. Driving without a valid MOT can mean a fine of up to £1,000, and your insurer may not pay out after an accident. If yours has already lapsed, the only journey you can legally make is to a pre-booked test, so book online or give us a call and we will fit you in as soon as we can.
